The population of Zhuang Nationality is 15 million. 13 million of them are distributed mainly over Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province. A small number of them are scattered in Guangdong, Hunan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces. It is the largest nationality in number among the minority nationalities.

The Zhuangs are given different names in different places, "Bushuang", "Buchuang", "Bunong", "Buman", etc. The Zhuang nationality developed from a branch of Yue people (Yue was one of the Warring States) in ancient China.

The Zhuangs have their own language and writing, which belong to the Chinese-Tibetan language family, dividing into two major dialects, north and south. Their written language is phonetic alphabet writing.

The Zhuangs are mainly engaged in agriculture, growing paddy rice and maise.
